The Taipei Tech Club is a group of tech industry professionals located in Taipei, Taiwan. We like to talk about the latest tech news and get together in real life for social events at local pubs around the city.
History
In September of 2008, a few of us were talking on www.forumosa.com about getting together to discuss what's going on in the Taiwan tech scene. We held our first gathering at the Brass Monkey to exchange name cards and chat over a couple of drinks. Since then we've been meeting every 6 weeks or so at different restaurants and bars around the city to talk with friends, as well as welcome new members to the club.
Mission
Our main goal is to help Taiwan-based technology professionals stay in touch with each other. We're also interested in helping overseas journalists and visitors gain greater access to information and learn more about Taiwan from some long-term residents. People sometimes think Taipei Tech Club meetups are a bunch of guys sitting around talking about how awesome their computers are. But in reality we leave our gear at home because we spend most of our day in front of the computer and just need to get out once in a while. (And we wouldn't want to spill beer on our keyboards, of course.)
Members
Our events are open-invite and free of charge. Just come and bring a name card with your email address and we'll add you to the invite list for the next gathering. Our previous events have included folks from large technology companies, both Taiwanese and global: Acer, ASUS, Corsair, Dell, GIGABYTE, HTC, Google, HP, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, TSMC, Via, and more.
It's hard to pinpoint what exactly everyone does since we're such a loose federation of technology workers. Sales and marketing experts, social media mavens, financial analysts, web journalists, project managers, technical writers, IT gurus, programmers, entrepreneurs, and lawyers are all represented in our club. We're a diverse group of specialists that hail from all corners of the world, which is why our meetups tend to be engaging, informative, and pretty humorous sometimes.
